What is courage? We all want to be courageous and brave. But what exactly is it? This is the definition of courage: strength in the face of pain or grief. That is exactly how I feel about this word. When my grandfather died, my mother and grandmother were devastated. I was too. But as the eldest, I needed to help take care of the kids and comfort my family. That is not exactly the courage that most people think of though. The common thoughts on courage are brave, strong people who have risked their lives to help someone else. That is courage to us.
The reason I chose this quote was because I thought that the sound and the meaning of the quote were very interesting. Basically, the person who said this is trying to say that if fear was a piece of paper and you ripped it into pieces and glued it back together, it would become courage. How does that work? Well, my hypothesis is that when we fear something, we try to muster up all the courage we can . So metaphorically speaking, what we muster up, are the torn pieces of paper. Until the pieces are properly glued together, there is no courage.
The reason I chose the painting was because the calligraphy was flowing with my thoughts about courage. These characters are Japanese for the word 'Courage'. By Chiyo Sanada
