It's Not A One Way Road

For this post, I decided I wanted to learn about men and women who help others for the better. People all around the world live without basic necessities including proper food, shelter, education, and medical care. As I have said in my previous post, we are very fortunate people to have these basics catered to us. I believe that social services are worth fighting for.
The one thing that is a main part of social services is education. Many people in our world are literate but there are places where some people just don’t get that education, due to reasons like governments, poverty, etc. Elena Durón Miranda is someone who is trying to get children in Argentina educated. In Bariloche, Argentina, families and children from the age of four onwards worked in dumps to find food, either to eat or to sell. When Ms. Miranda saw that, she was horrified at the fact that children who deserved education were instead working in trash dumps to help their families. So, she created a nonprofit organization to help the little children of Bariloche obtain the education that they had a right to.  I think that Ms. Miranda made a great decision. I believe that everyone should get a chance at education and learn about the world around them. We are people who are forced to go to school, because of our parents and how our society is run. But the people in Bariloche, Argentina, have to work at such a young age and they don’t get the prospect of literacy and proving themselves to their people.
Another main aspect of social services is nutritious foods. Even in a country like the United States of America, there are horrible poverty stricken towns where families live in motels, their appetites consisting of potato chips and sodas. Italian Bruno Serato saw this when he took his mother to visit the Anaheim, California Boys & Girls Club, where children were eating bags of junk food as their supper. It was his mother who convinced him that he had to do something about these children so they could have proper dinners. Soon after he began serving pots and pots full of pasta to the children (who were so excited to see real food that they could eat), he created ‘Caterina’s Club’, named after his mother, to raise money for the disadvantaged children. I find that this act of charity, albeit so simple, was probably the best thing that had ever happened to the children in Anaheim. Since people can’t live without food, they should at least get the bare minimum, and Mr. Serato just helps them get a little bit more.
Medical care is the social service that people need the most, to help them to create families, keep themselves healthy, and help their families. Guadalupe Arizpe De La Vega created the ‘Hospital de la Familia’ in the world’s murder capital, Juarez, Mexico. Although she lives in Texas, she makes daily visits to her hospital to help tend to the people in her hometown. Juarez is a city right in the middle of the drug war, rival drug traffickers fighting each other for regional control. Hundreds of people get shot on a regular basis and families are torn apart. The streets are filled with misery and people only try to keep safe. Ms. De La Vega’s hospital is one of those places. One of the places where the innocent people of Juarez can take cover and if their loved ones had been injured then there would be adequate health care for them. I think that in a town like Juarez, Ms. De La Vega is a very brave person to show her intense passion and love for her people in that kind of way. The people who are victims of this war have every right to be taken care of.
To take care of people with genuine compassion and generosity is something very special. The painting I've chosen, 'Small Pleasures' by Wassily Kandinsky is literally a mash-up up of warm colors, complemented by cool blues to show comfort and warmth. I believe that if there are people out there who are willing to contribute to our world and make it a better place, then we should all be for it.'Compassion Is A Two Way Street'- Frank Capra. I think this small quote says it all, that people can only be compassionate if they do it with their own initiative and heart. We should all try our best to implement our thoughts and ideas to help our fellow humans around the globe stop suffering and let them live the life that they are worthy of.
